Does an “accredited” degree matter?

Going to college is an important part of many people’s lives. It gives you the opportunity to study what you are passionate about, learn the different techniques that can make you successful in that area and can help you land a job upon graduation.

Since college is a huge investment it is important that you know what you are getting into before you start.

What Is an Accredited Degree?

The most important thing that you must know before you start at any university is to make sure that the college is accredited in the major you are looking to study. An accredited degree is essential if you are looking to land a job upon graduation. This degree helps set you apart from others.

Every school must go through the process of accreditation every few years. The college itself is held to high standards to ensure that they are preparing their students for success. An accredited committee will observe all of the students, faculty, programs, and standards. This committee will make a decision on whether the college has a curriculum and standards that are rigorous enough to be considered accredited.

If the college is accredited, it basically means that they have a rigorous curriculum that is going to prepare students for a career after college. Companies look to hire those who went to an accredited university because they want to ensure that their workers are equipped to handle the situations that real life presents.

Accredited Vs. Non-Accredited

An accredited degree is one that is verified by a special committee. This committee works to ensure that the standards set forth by the college are exceptional.

If a college is non accredited it means that there is no supervision of the college, faculty or standards. The faculty is able to make the curriculum as they see fit. They can include or exclude essential materials. Since there is no verification process there is no way to guarantee that a school is teaching its students the things that they need to learn to be successful.

For most of us, the goal of college is to earn a high paying job after. Earning your degree from an accredited university or college is the best way to ensure success upon graduation.
